It is very difficult, for me, to talk about the Alps from an impartial point of view. This is the kingdom of snow and wind, of lonely valleys peopled by forests of larches where squirrels, ermines and wood-grouses find their refuge. Towards the sky you can gaze at powerful glaciers, twinkling horizons of light.

The ever-shifting, glowing patterns of light that twist and turn restlessly in the sky above your head on a frosty evening in high northern latitudes have the Latin name of aurora borealis. The Northern Lights, as they are commonly known, occur high up (40-120 miles) above the surface of the earth where the atmosphere has become extremely thin.

The Arctic world...has its miracle and magic of nature. I have visited a lot of places in the Arctic, especially in Lapland. Come and see its beautiful space...If you are well-trevelled man, then you could see more "mirages that turn floating mountains tospy-turvy ahead of you and behind your back, while whales are at play and the northern lights are shimmering in the sky."
